A prolific worker, Robert Stewart produced paintings, tapestries, graphics, ceramics and murals but it is his textile designs that have been the most influential, in particular those produced by Liberty, Pringle and Donald Brothers in the 1950's.
He was a contemporary of Lucienne Day and one of the few designers she admired.
Eight of Stewarts designs, from the 50s, are being digitally reproduced by the Centre for Advanced Textiles by kind permission of his widow, Sheila Stewart.
