A bit about the Heron chair:

The easy chair was the must-have piece of furniture in any post war modernist home. All serious furniture designers of the period made an attempt at their own design, and Ernest Race's classic Heron chair more than holds its own against equivalent pieces by Ray and Charles Eames or Eero Saarinen.

Its design incorporated upholstery techniques which were technically challenging even by today's standards. In fact the skill level required to make the chair was so high that when the Race Furniture factory moved to the Isle of Sheppey in 1962 the Heron went out of production due to lack of skilled upholsterers in the new location.

The chair incorporated a number of innovations, but the most important was the use of Latex foam on a steel frame. Latex foam was invented in 1929, but it was only after the war that it became widely available to the domestic market. The use of Latex foam freed Race from the constraints of traditional upholstery techniques such as springing and stuffing, and allowed him to design the chair to more closely fit the human form.

Comfort is further enhanced by the fact that the Heron chair is very generously proportioned, which means you can sit in it in a number of different ways.
