The Bouquet Garni design was one of three original designs produced by Lucienne Day for Fragonard Ltd in 1959. The commissions were part of an effort by Fragonard's Belfast-based parent company, Thomas Somerset, to revive Irish linen making by bringing in more modern designs. The three initial glass towels, which also included the Too Many Cooks design, proved very popular and even won a Design Centre award in 1960. This success led to the release of a further thirteen designs during the 1960s, including Batterie de Cuisine.
